Suruchi Beach: The Ultimate Guide

by Sharukh Bamboat

Are you planning a trip to Suruchi Beach in Vasai? Spending an evening at the beach can be a great experience. Whether you are alone or spending quality moments with your partner being at the beach can be a great experience. It allows you to take a break from the hectic routine and find a moment to pause.

(This is an updated version of the original 2017 post).

One of the things most Mumbaikars would agree with me is that there are many beaches in the city. For instance, the Girgaum Chowpatty, the Worli Sea Face, Bandra Bandstand, Aksa Beach in Malad and the iconic Juhu Beach.

While these beaches offer an urban beach experience they are generally crowded and polluted. If you are looking for a quiet beach holiday you can visit Suruchi Beach Vasai. The best part about Suruchi Beach Vasai West is that you can visit it for a one-day experience. This virgin beach in Vasai is a hidden gem, a little north of Mumbai. It is among the best beaches near Mumbai for one-day picnics.

A Bit About Suruchi Beach

While you are at the beach you will find plenty of Casuarina Equisetifolia (She-Oak) trees as seen in the images below. A Casuarina tree in the Marathi language is called ‘Suru’. The beach gets its name from these trees. Hence, Suru-chi Beach would mean ‘Beach of Casuarina’. Located on the west side of Vasai, Suruchi Beach has blackish sand which gives it a distinctive appearance from the rest of the beaches in Mumbai.

How to Reach Suruchi Beach Vasai?

If you are planning a visit to Suruchi Beach you must know how to reach quickly.

Located in Vasai, you will need to take a Western Railway suburban train.

You can choose Vasai or Virar local train and get off at Vasai Road Station. Take the west side exit. You will find various rickshaws right outside the railway station willing to take you to the beach.

While the rickshaw will cost you more than a bus you will save a lot of time. Hence, I would recommend choosing a rickshaw only if you are short of time.

However, if you are in no rush you should choose the local VVMT bus. You should take the VVMT bus (in yellow-green colour) a little far from the railway station right under the skywalk. If you are unable to find the bus stop you may ask locals to help you guide your way.

Ask for the VVMT bus stop and take the Bhaskar Ali route (Bus No. 115). The bus frequency is every 15 minutes. You need to get down at Paar-Naka. You may ask the conductor to inform you when the stop arrives.

While the bus won’t take you right to the beach but will drop you on the road that leads to the beach. You can ask for directions to Asmita Chowk and from there Suruchi Beach is another 10 minutes walk.

If you want to skip the bus route and all the walking you may choose to pick rickshaw from the railway station.

Best Time to Visit Suruchi Beach

The best time to visit Suruchi Beach is during the evening hours to enjoy stunning sunsets. Hence, you should be on the beach by five in the evening and stay until sunset. You can visit Suruchi Beach Vasai West on weekdays and weekends as well. However, on weekends you will find more people enjoying their weekend time. Ideally, you should leave soon after the sunset hours to avoid any unfortunate event as there are no cops here.

Visiting Suruchi Beach

There is no doubt that Suruchi Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches near Mumbai. Once you are on the beach you would kind of get an Alibaug-like vibe.

This single stretch of road is a bit long. Hence, it will take you around 10 minutes to reach the beach. The beach is also quite close to the Vasai Fort which is a part of Vasai’s history.

Once you are at the entrance of the beach you will see food stalls and ice cream vendors. There are dustbins available around the food stalls so kindly use them. I would humbly request my readers to please do not litter and protect the environment.

The dustbins are only available on the beach. Hence, if you carry snacks and food on the beach, do not throw plastic bags and wrappers on the beach. Carry it along with you, and dump it in dustbins available at the entrance of the beach.

There is a mini parking space for cars and two-wheelers so you can park your vehicle safely.

Things to Know When Visiting Suruchi Beach

  • The beach is quite isolated from the rest of the village. Hence, stay alert to avoid any unfortunate incident.
  • There is only one entry point to the beach where you will find multiple food stalls. This is where the beach is relatively untidy than the rest of the beach.
  • Visit the beach during the sunset hours when there are relatively more people than throughout the day.
  • There are not many restaurants close to the beach. If you are planning a beach day + a fine dining experience you will have to plan your trip accordingly.
  • Staying at the beach after 7 p.m. is not advisable especially if you do not have a personal vehicle. Of course, you can take a rickshaw and head to Vasai station. However, in the evening hours, mosquitoes can also be an issue.
  • Try not to pollute the beach with plastic bags and water bottles. There are dustbins at the beach entrance. Please discard plastic bags and bottles in the dustbin provided.

I was surprised to end up on such a lively beach after looking at that lonely road from the bus stop. What a fun place to spend a few hours. The beautiful photos help paint a wonderful picture of a great destination.

Yeah, that lonely road can be scary at times. I visited this beach way back in 2012 and it was just a small mud track through the swamps on both sides and it opens up at the beach. I’m glad the authorities have converted that muddy off-beat track into a road for people to reach the beach. It is very isolated from the rest of the village, but virgin locations are always a bit far from the civilization, or they won’t remain virgin too long. I am glad you liked the pictures. Thank you for your time and comment.

I’ve never been to Suruchi Beach in Mumbai and didn’t know beyond Juhu, Chowpatty, Dadar or Andheri side. Damn man when I was still in India should have checked the beach with an electrifying atmosphere. Loved Juhu a lot. Marine Drive was always a favorite and was staying at Churchgate. So, you can imagine my everyday evening trip:)

Hey Vishal, thanks for the comment. Well, technically Suruchi Beach isn’t in Mumbai, but yes, you can visit it and return home after spending some great time here with friends and family. For me, Marine Drive is always special and I can imagine your daily evening trips because mine were similar. I used to sit at Marine Drive with my mother and therefore it holds a special place in my heart. However, Suruchi Beach is still a somewhat virgin beach destination. I hope after reading my blog post people who visit this beach enjoy the beauty of this place without littering.
