If you have been reading my blog posts regularly you would’ve known by now that I love Marine Drive, a sea-side boulevard in South Mumbai. Well, I am a sea person and therefore I am always searching for new sea-side destinations that can offer me some great sunrise and sunset experiences. One of the things Mumbaikars would agree on with me is that there are many beaches in the city. For instance, the Girgaum Chowpatty, the Worli Sea Face, Bandra Bandstand, Aksa Beach in Malad and the most popular of all the Juhu Beach in Vile Parle.
These beaches offer great beach experiences to the residents of the city, but they are usually crowded, polluted and sometimes frequently visited. Hence, they might not offer you the kind of experience that you get when you visit a new beach altogether. If you are looking for beaches near Mumbai for the weekend you can visit the Suruchi Beach. This virgin beach is a hidden gem in Vasai, a little north of Mumbai. It is among the best beaches near Mumbai for one day picnics.

If you are living in the city, you can take a Western Railway Vasai or Virar local train and get down at Vasai station (on the west side). The moment you step out of the railway station you will find rickshaws ready to take you to the beach, but I would recommend instead taking the VVMT bus (in yellow-green colour). Rickshaws will charge you around 5 times more than what you pay for the bus ride.

Ask for the VVMT bus stop which is a 5-7 minute walk from the station. Take the Bhaskar Ali bus (Bus No. 115) from the bus stop. The bus frequency is every 20 minutes, so you won’t have to wait for long. You may ask the conductor to inform you when your stop arrives.
The bus won’t take you right to the beach but will drop you on the road that leads to the beach. The moment you get down from the bus just take the single road (as in the picture). It will lead you straight to the beach.

The Long Stretch of Road
The single stretch of road is a bit long. Hence, it will take you around 10 minutes to reach the beach. Once you are at the entrance of the beach you will see food stalls and ice cream vendors. There are dustbins available around the food stalls so kindly use them. I would humbly request my readers to please do not litter and protect the environment. The dustbins are only available on the beach. Hence, if you carry snacks and food on the beach, do not throw plastic bags and wrappers on the beach. Carry it along with you, and dump it in dustbins available at the entrance of the beach.

Don’t Be a Dog, Be Human. Use Dustbins
One of the unique features of this beach is that it has a sort of lagoon. So, there is a shallow area of water separated from the actual sea area. If you visit the beach with kids you can let them play in the shallow water area. Kids can also enjoy some slides and swings at the beach. Families looking for beaches near Mumbai for one-day picnics can visit this beach.

Play Area for the Kids at Suruchi Beach
Geographically, Suruchi Beach is in the interiors of the Vasai village. Hence, to prevent any unfortunate event the local authorities have decided to close the beach at 7 pm. The best time to visit the beach would be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. You can enjoy some horse riding and horse carts as well at the beach. I would also request my readers to ensure that you stay safe. Do not to venture into the water during high tide hours.
Enjoy Responsibly. Protect the Environment.

Beautiful images Sharukh! I love the photos of you and Sarah especially. She has such a lovely handwriting. Even in the sand! 👏🏻💕
I am glad that you liked the images. These are just a fraction of the images we took. I will post more images soon in a different format. Thank you for your kind response.
I was surprised to end up on such a lively beach after looking at that lonely road from the bus stop. What a fun place to spend a few hours. The beautiful photos help paint a wonderful picture of a great destination.
Yeah, that lonely road can be scary at times. I visited this beach way back in 2012 and it was just a small mud track through the swamps on both sides and it opens up at the beach. I’m glad the authorities have converted that muddy off-beat track into a road for people to reach the beach. It is very isolated from the rest of the village, but virgin locations are always a bit far from the civilization, or they won’t remain virgin too long. I am glad you liked the pictures. Thank you for your time and comment.
I’ve never been to Suruchi Beach in Mumbai and didn’t know beyond Juhu, Chowpatty, Dadar or Andheri side. Damn man when I was still in India should have checked the beach with an electrifying atmosphere. Loved Juhu a lot. Marine Drive was always a favorite and was staying at Churchgate. So, you can imagine my everyday evening trip:)
Hey Vishal, thanks for the comment. Well, technically Suruchi Beach isn’t in Mumbai, but yes, you can visit it and return home after spending some great time here with friends and family. For me, Marine Drive is always special and I can imagine your daily evening trips because mine were similar. I used to sit at Marine Drive with my mother and therefore it holds a special place in my heart. However, Suruchi Beach is still a somewhat virgin beach destination. I hope after reading my blog post people who visit this beach enjoy the beauty of this place without littering.
