Discovering Monsoon Destinations in Konkan

by Sharukh Bamboat

While most people crib about monsoon season and how it affects the life in Mumbai and also how the local trains come to a halt but I believe monsoon is about getting wet and wild. Of course, I can say that because I am sitting here right in the comfort of my room hearing the thundering clouds, feeling the cool monsoon air and smelling the petrichor. While I am talking about the rains here I believe this would be the best time to talk something about some cool monsoon destinations in Konkan that can offer a great experience for so little. It has been a long time since I last visited Konkan but the memories are still fresh and clear wiped by the monsoon climate that takes me back into those vacation days. Let me share some of the best monsoon destinations of Konkan that you can enjoy to the fullest this year.

Napne Waterfalls

Waterfalls are the best thing that you can look out for when you want to take a break from work on weekends and escape into a different world not too far away from your city. Napane is a small remote town around 40 kilometers from Kankavli and here you can find many waterfalls that can simply take your breath away. These waterfalls are seasonal so they are flowing in full glory during the monsoon time. While the water flow is not too great during the summer, Napne waterfalls offer a great holiday experience during the rainy season.

You have to be a little bit cautious here because of the rocks but you can always take your camera here to click some great pictures of the landscape and fauna and flora. Listen to the birds chirping at a distance and enjoy the grandeur of this waterfall. By road use NH-17 and take left at Talere via Nadhavade. If you are using Konkan Railways, alight at Vaibhavwadi station. There are not many hotels here so you can find some great hotels in Kankavli or Talere.

Amboli

Amboli

Better known as the Mahabaleshwar of Konkan this small hill station is nestled in the tranquility of the Western Ghats and offers great lush greenery during the monsoon time. At the altitude of 690 meters above sea level Amboli is a perfect getaway destination in Konkan.

If you need isolation from the hectic lifestyle come up the hills and find yourself one with the universe. It has a cool and pollution-free climate that will cheer you up instantly. There are beautiful waterfalls here while you can also enjoy the sunset point which I believe it almost not too great during the heavy rainfall because of the cloud cover. However, Amboli is a great location that can offer you so much at an affordable budget. You can get down at Sawantwadi Road if you are using Konkan Railway or you can use NH-17 to reach Amboli.

Dapoli

You have to visit Dapoli during the monsoon time because it offers a great weekend experience for sure. Here in Dapoli you get the combination of mountains and beaches at the same time so travelers who want to enjoy Goa and Lonavala at the same time can come down here. Enjoy the slow rising fog clouds and generously flowing waterfalls here in Dapoli along with lush green mountains and when you are tired of it run towards the virgin beaches that have no crowd, no pollution and probably no hawkers as well.

You can also view dolphins and olive ridley sea turtles here if you are lucky. You can get down at Khed if you are using Konkan Railway or you can use the NH-17 via Goregaon or via Tol.

Arevare Seaface and Beach

While this is not a popular monsoon destination in Konkan at the moment, but you will find this place on the tourism map in the next few years for sure. Arevare, the name itself has a funny tune to it in Marathi, but it offers a great seashore experience that is ideal for those who want to explore new places.

A new road has been constructed here that connects this small town to Ratnagiri and Ganpatipule so it’s an ideal destination for bikers. The roads are on the height of 100 feet cliff so it feels heavenly here. There are no water sports activities here and no hotels here so make sure you find good accommodation in Ganpatipule in advance. I would recommend this place only if you have a vehicle to travel.

Vayangani Beach

Vayangani

Vayangani

Konkan can offer you the best shelter when you want to run away from all the commotion of urban modern lifestyle. Vayangani beach is one of the top monsoon destinations in Konkan where you can find solace and tranquility to get rid of all that fatigue and stress throughout the week. This seaside village offers you a simple monsoon experience that you can enjoy with your friends and family members.

The village is loaded with betel nuts, jackfruit and coconut trees and offer you the right ocean view that feel as if you are on a lost island with only peace by your side. You can get down at either Kudal Road or Sawantwadi Road railway station if you are using Konkan Railway or use NH-17 and take left at Kudal to take the Kudal-Vengurla Road.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. Indeed Konkan looks like heaven in Monsoon.
Recently we had been to Vengurla which also lies in Konkan. We had booked a stay at Golven Beach Resort. The weather was very good. We had visited Amboli hill station and it was just so beautiful. Thank you once again for bringing in light the other places that could be visited in konkan.
