There’s no way to experience India without embracing the culture. After all, it’s so prevalent – from the food to the architecture, you’ll have a hard time avoiding it if you try.

Be sure to make the most of it, whether it be by visiting cultural places of importance such as Delhi’s Lotus Temple, or trying a bite of street food. India’s culture is so vibrant and exciting you’ll want to dive in right away. Delhi has a lot to offer and here are some things to do in Delhi when you visit India.

Visit the hotspots

Taj Mahal

Head to India and it’s likely you’ll want to visit some of its top tourist spots. The Taj Mahal is arguably the most iconic of all – this grand white mausoleum draws in thousands of tourists and locals every day.

That’s not the only landmark India has to offer, though. From the magnificent Red Fort on the outskirts of Delhi to Jaipur’s City Palace, there are wondrous sights to be discovered pretty much anywhere you are.

Escape to the outskirts

Alternatively, head to the outskirts of the country to discover equally as impressive locations. The Himalayas can be found in India’s north-east region, sharing a border with Nepal.

It’s here you’ll want to go if you’re an avid hiker and explorer. Ride the Toy Train to Darjeeling to discover a hill station boasting fantastic panoramas of the surroundings – be sure to try some of the town’s renowned tea, too.

Talk to the locals

While in India, be sure to strike up a conversation with the locals. The country’s residents are always friendly, warm and inviting, and if you’re travelling solo be sure to approach them – there’s always willing to have a chat.

You might even want to go a step further and stay with a local family. Homestays are common in India – especially in Kerala – and you’ll experience an authentic way of life unparalleled by any other opportunity.

Yeah, a single visit cannot provide enough room to explore all facets of the country. At least, when a country is as big and diverse as India.
