Simple is elegant and that is what Tarkarli stands for. You don’t expect great things from it, but you still return home satisfied and happy. When we think about beaches in India, we certainly think of Goa where majority of the travelers flock throughout the year, but Tarkarli has its own way of attracting people who prefer to get the best of nature without any expectations. Nestled in the Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, Tarkarli offers beautiful coastline and pristine clear water that makes it a great spot for romantic couples and adventure lovers alike. Gradually, it has become a tourist attraction for many who want something different from the regular Goa beaches that are packed with tourists throughout the year.
For those who are traveling from Mumbai by car can take National Highway 66 through Pen, Roha, Mahad, Chiplun, and Kankavli finally reaching the destination. This will take you around 10 hours, so brace yourself for a long drive. If you’re traveling from Pune, you can take the National Highway 4 driving through Satara, Kolhapur reaching Kankavli and finally Tarkarli. This will take you around 6-7 hours of drive. There are frequent buses from Tarkarli that can further take you to Panaji (Goa) and back. Surprisingly, Tarkarli has many different ways to keep tourists busy with various water sport activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, camel rides and so on. Hence, it is among the best places to enjoy weekend in Maharashtra.
One of my friends Riya Ghosh (also a budding photographer) who recently visited Tarkarli has been kind enough to let me put some of her pictures on my blog.
