India is the land of festivals but Diwali is certainly one of the most anticipated festivals of India. Like many others, I am always excited to celebrate this festival with my friends, family and colleagues. One of the best things about Diwali is that people from all walks of life and different religions, regions and state celebrate it with the same joy and excitement. It is the festival of lights that inspires all of us to spread the love and happiness and to drive away the darkness, sorrow and negativity within and around us. Being a shopaholic, shopping is what excites me during the festive season and being a Mumbaikar I am always looking for places for Diwali shopping in Mumbai.
Mumbai is the financial hub of the country. Hence, weeks before the actual festival you will find Mumbai shops lit up by fancy Diwali lanterns. People go on a shopping spree and brands are all set to announce exclusive festive discounts to lure more customers.
Of course, in the past few years e-commerce sites like Amazon and Flipkart have stepped up the competition. However, a majority of the Indian consumers still prefer to look for places in Mumbai for Diwali shopping.
If you are planning to buy smartphones, laptops, jewellery, household and kitchen appliances, automobiles this is the time to grab some really good offers.
One cannot think of celebrating Diwali without new clothes and dresses. Mumbai has many places for those looking to buy some new clothes for the festive season. If you are into brands you can visit some of the popular shopping malls in Mumbai. Here you can find multiple brand retail outlets offering you best in men’s and women’s clothing.
Malls like InOrbit Mall, Infinity Mall and Oberoi Mall offer you with plenty of options. Lifestyle and Shopper’s Stop have various clothing options for you in all price range. These malls are my personal favourites for Diwali shopping in Mumbai.
However, if you are not into malls and brand retail outlets you still have more options on your side. If you love to buy fabrics Mangaldas Market near Crawford Market has a wide range of options at the best price.
In South Mumbai, Heera Panna is another great option to shop good clothes for the Diwali season. Gandhi Market at King Circle and Bhuleshwar Market near Charni Road are recommended if you prefer street shopping in Mumbai.
In the western suburbs, Natraj Market in Malad West is a great option for Diwali shopping in Mumbai. It is one of the oldest shopping destinations in Mumbai right opposite the Malad railway station.
You will find men and women clothing, dress materials and readymade clothes here. This place has narrow lanes and it can be crowded during the festive season so be mentally prepared for it.
For an affordable range of clothes, I would suggest heading to Colaba Causeway and Fashion Street in South Mumbai. The subway near CST in South Mumbai is good for budget shopping.
Dadar is another great destination for shopping that you can get your hands on. The New Hind Mata Cloth Market is one of the best places for Diwali shopping in Mumbai.
If you are looking for some sarees and dress materials then you can find many shops and streets here that can offer you the right satisfaction. Bandra Linking Road Market is also among the top places to shop in Mumbai for Diwali.
On the Central line, Thane, Ghatkopar and Kurla are some spots where you can find great clothing shops. On the Harbour line, Vashi is the best place to shop some nice clothes and shoes for Diwali.
Jewellery & Accessories
No styling and fancy clothes can make you look good without the right accessories. For men, accessories like belts, sunglasses, wallets, perfumes and watches can make them appear stylish and enhance their personality.
For women, handbags, clutches, shoes, jewellery, watches and cosmetics would be important during the festive season.
If you like branded accessories, malls across the city can offer plenty of options. During the festive time malls offer deals that are hard to find throughout the year.
I love street shopping in Mumbai but when I am doing my Diwali shopping in Mumbai I prefer malls. This is mainly because I get some good discounts here during the festive season.
Most malls do advertise the offers they have on social media platforms. Hence, you need to look out for those offers depending on what you want to purchase.
If you are keen on buying jewellery and accessories Crawford Market has many jewellery stores. Bhuleshwar Market is a great shopping destination in South Mumbai for artificial jewellery.
If you have the budget you can head to Zaveri Bazaar near Crawford Market for some real jewellery shopping. You can also shop gold and silver jewellery at Chira Bazaar near Dhobi Talao in South Mumbai.
Colaba Causeway and Bandra Linking Road Market is also an ideal stop for artificial jewellery and handbags at bargain rates. If you have good bargaining skills you can find some great deals here.
Home, Kitchen and Décor
People across India love to decorate their homes and flats during Diwali. Hence, you must look for places to shop in Mumbai for Diwali season. If you are planning to upgrade your home interiors you can also explore more options while Diwali shopping in Mumbai.
If you have the budget the Home Centre section within the Lifestyle stores has plenty of options to help you furnish your home for this festive season. Here you will find furniture, furnishings, décor items, dining tables, crockery and cutlery, table accessories, kitchenware, serveware and bath and laundry products.
HyperCity is also one of the places where you can find some great home décor items at great prices.
The Good Earth provides with some great options for tableware and serveware so you can always look for their stores in Mumbai.
Crawford Market is the best places to shop in Mumbai for Diwali for home decor and kitchenware items. Here you will find small and medium-sized shops that sell bed and bath accessories to help you enhance home interiors.
Bhuleshwar Market in the downtown area is also one of the best places for Diwali shopping in Mumbai. You can also find some great kitchenware and home décor items at the Oshiwara Market in the western suburbs.
Electronics and Appliances
There are many stores across Mumbai that sell home and kitchen appliances. However, if you are looking for some great deals then you can head to Vijay Sales and Croma that offer some great offers.
Croma and Vijay Sales are also quite renowned for selling kitchen appliances that you can purchase on Diwali festive season. Apart from branded stores, you can find many small and medium-sized shops that offer good deals. These shops are scattered all over the city so you can find one in your locality.
Mumbai is a shopper’s paradise where you can find almost any product if you know where to find it. There are many other places and lanes that I would have missed in this one. Hence, you can always find more places to shop in Mumbai for Diwali. However, these are some of my recommendations for Diwali shopping in Mumbai.
Do let me know which are your favourite places to shop in Mumbai for Diwali season. I would love to hear your shopping experiences and stories.
